Our Facebook Group has been updated and the name changed to OstoMATES NZ.   Some exciting new members have joined so if you are interested have a look, you might just be surprised

This was held at Cloudland in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley area There were five finalists including two New Zealanders, Jill Newton and Kallia Patching and while neither won first place there was so little between all five that the judges found it very hard to actually pick the winner, who was Erin Goodwin from Perth.

The Great Comebacks program is not just for Ostomates but for nurses as well and although this year’s award went to an Australian nurse there is no reason why New Zealand nurses cannot be nominated for the 2017 awards as well as Ostomates. It just takes people to put pen to paper and send them in via the web site http://www.greatcomebacks.com.au/

This is a program that has been instituted by Convatec worldwide and is designed to showcase the achievements of Ostomates or people with similar problems. This is the first year that New Zealand has been included in the awards and I am very happy that in fact two New Zealand Ostomates have made it to the finalists.

Both Jill Newton and Kallia Patching made it to the finals out of a total entry of thirty people. As a member of the Great Comebacks steering committee I can assure everyone that it was a very hard task indeed narrowing this number down to the final six as so many of the stories were just so incredible.

All of the finalists will be attending the prize giving dinner and awards ceremony in Brisbane on the 12th of  March 2017 were the winner will be announced at the Cloudland’s events centre.

Additional to the award for the winning Ostomate will be another award to be presented to a Stomal Therapy Nurse who has gone beyond normal duty to help patients regain quality of life.
